Easy Iwashi balls
An all time favourite at home.
Packed with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, calcium, minerals and protein, this versatile dish can be used in hotpots, porridges, soups and many more.

Yields – 4 servings
Ingredients
- 600g of Iwashi fillets – gutted and deboned
- ½ tablespoon of sake
- 2 teaspoons of grated ginger
- 1 cup of chopped green onion stalks
- 1 egg white
- Potato starch
- Sea Salt
Steps
- Chop Iwashi fillets until it is a similar consistency to ground meat
- Combine with grated ginger, green onion stalks, sake and egg white in a bowl
- Season with sea salt
- Mix until it forms a slightly sticky paste
- Form into balls with moistened hands
- Lightly roll balls in potato starch and place them in a pot of simmering water
- Cook for 4-6 mins until they are firm and white on the outside
- Remove from pot and add to broth of choice (we especially like this for hotpot or with dashi broth) and bring to a boil

Make a big batch and freeze them ahead of time for lazy rainy day meal at home
